Mandatory English Summer Reading Assignments.

Make sure to complete the English Summer Reading Assignments before the start of the school year. Visit Woodbridge Township School District's website to view the assignments. Many of the books assigned can be found in your local public libraries.

Below are the instructions from Ms. Zarestky, the Supervisor of the WHS English department.

DUE SEPTEMBER 2nd
(via email to your English teacher or handed to Ms. Zarestky in Room 315)

Book lists and assignments are posted on the District Website under Summer Reading banner.

All 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students must turn in their summer assignments on the first day of school, regardless of which semester the student has English class. All assignments must be EMAILED to your assigned English teacher by SEPTEMBER 2, 2015. If you cannot email, turn in the assignment to Ms.Zarestky in Room 315 by 2:30 pm on September 2, 2015. Do not give your assignment to any teacher, administrator, or staff member other than Ms. Zarestky in Room 315.

*Advanced Placement English summer reading is due the first day of school. You must turn in your assignments directly to your Advanced Placement teacher.*

College Courses and Summer Camps in the Summer

If you are a high-achieving student and are interested in taking college courses in the summer, many schools offer summer programs for high school students.

Rutgers University is currently promoting classes to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. Students must have a minimum GPA of a 3.0.Students can take up to two introductory-level college courses in a variety of fields. Scholarships are also available on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Visit Summer Scholars for details and to apply.



Middlesex County College also has a high school scholars programs for students interested in taking classes during the school year or the summer. Visit MCC High School Scholars Program for details and to apply.

AP Summer Assignments and English Summer Reading

If you missed the AP meeting, please be sure to complete the summer assignments found on Woodbridge High School's website.

If you are interested in adding an additional AP or SUPA course, speak to your guidance counselor before June 30th.

English Summer Reading assignments are also up at http://www.woodbridge.k12.nj.us/domain/103.

** Note that if you are repeating an English class next year, you must complete a reading assignment for each class.

Passport 2 College - Free College Courses

Devry is offering two free college courses for upcoming Juniors and Seniors. Spaces are limited, please contact Devry for more details.

DeVry University’s Passport to College Criteria - Free College Courses

Passport To College (P2C)

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
 - Current high school transcript
    - 2.5 or higher GPA
 - Completed & signed Passport to college enrollment application
    (parent must sign if under age 18)
 - Letters of recommendation (teacher, guidance counselor, or principal)
 - Short essay explaining why you want to take a complimentary college course over the       
    summer and how it will benefit your college plans.
  - Signed Enrollment Agreement (provided by DeVry)
Please fill out the Enrollment Agreement and fax or scan-email back to DeVry by the June 30, 2015 deadline
You cannot be scheduled for the class until DeVry has this form. 
You will need the following information to fill this out:
a.       Fill out the top of the 1st page with all of your information (including your social security number in full)
                                                               i.      The class start date is 7/13/15
b.      For location, you will choose New Jersey, 630 US Highway One, North Brunswick
c.       Sign the bottom of the 1st page
d.      On the 2nd page, fill in the title of the course: Introduction to Business and Technology/BUSN 115/3 credits OR Introduction to Psychology/PSCY110/ 3 credits
e.      Fill in the bottom of the 2nd page.

f.        If you are under 18, your parent MUST sign the 2nd page as well.

AP and SUPA Courses

If you are currently registered to take an AP course for next year, the summer assignments are posted at AP Summer Assignments. Anyone signed up for Spanish AP, see Mrs. Ramos. 

Interested in adding an additional AP or SUPA course? See your counselor. Students have until June 30th to make any changes.

Senior Summer To Do List

Building Your College List (Research, Visits and Interviews) - During the summer it is a great time to finalize your list of fit schools to apply to. It is important to pick schools in each category.
     * Reach - college standards exceed your scores
     * Target - college standards comparable to your scores
     * Safety/Likely - your scores exceed the college standards

Applications - Create an account on Common Application for the schools you are interested in. Try to have the majority done while you are on vacation. Also start applications for schools that are not on Common Application.

Essays - Work on your draft of the Common Application Essay/Personal Statement. Common Application Essay Prompts.

Test Preparation - SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and/or ACT

Community Service - Summer is also a great time to participate in community service. Please see the Volunteering Tab for ideas.
