College Planning and Applying Workshop - Wednesday, June 7th in Room D225

On Wednesday, June 7th at 2:30 pm, Juniors are invited to attend a college planning and applying workshop. The summer and the beginning of Senior year can be overwhelming in knowing what schools to pick and how to apply. During the workshop, students will compare schools and understand the steps needed to apply. It is highly recommended to apply early and be as organized as possible. Do not miss this opportunity!

Seniors, get help completing FAFSA

Seniors, if you haven't completed the FAFSA and need help, Middlesex County College is offering workshops to help you complete it. You do not need to attend MCC to attend the workshop. All seniors that will be attending some form of school, once they graduate, need to complete the FAFSA, as soon as possible.

Whether you are thinking about a 2 year or 4 year college program, a technical college or program, or a training program leading to a certification, it’s important to plan for what you will be studying, where you will enroll and how you will pay for it. The College Bound Money Boot Camp is designed as a one-day series of workshops and informational tables where current students, incoming students, and family members work side by side with the University’s Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, and Lenders to gain a head start and competitive edge on the admission and payment process.

EOF Programs - Great College Program for Families that Qualify

If you and your family are in financial need and gross income fall within the criteria below; consider applying to an EOF program in the college that you are choosing.

The application process varies between schools.

How do I Apply for EOF?

1. Apply to a participating New Jersey college or university

Students must apply and be accepted to a New Jersey college or university that participates in the EOF program.

2. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Every student who wants to apply for the EOF grant must file a FAFSA. The FAFSA is available through high schools, colleges or by calling the toll-free hotline number at HESAA (Higher Education Student Assistant Authority)

1-800-792-8670. The FAFSA is also available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 

3. Contact the EOF director

There is an EOF campus director at every college and university participating in the EOF program and each college/university has its own specific criteria for EOF admission and program participation. Students must contact the EOF director at the institution they wish to attend for specific admissions information and requirements for participation in the EOF program.

WHS Guidance Tip: Apply early. The earlier you apply, the better chances for you to get accepted.

Because many colleges and universities give priority consideration and award packages to students who complete their FAFSA by January 31, HESAA and NJASFAA would like you to remind your senior class that the 2017 ‒ 2018 FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible. Although many of your students may have already completed the FAFSA, others still have not. Processing can take several weeks. The earlier your seniors apply, the earlier they can make informed decisions about their college selection.

Hispanic Student College Institute at Montclair University - Open to Class of 2018 and 2019

Montclair State University earned its Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation in March 2016 and, in doing so, became the largest four-year HSI designee in New Jersey. In celebration of Montclair State’s new status, and in keeping with our commitment to educating Hispanic students, the University is hosting a Hispanic Student College Institute for high school juniors and seniors who identify as Hispanic.

When: August 1-3, 2017

Where: Montclair State University

Cost: Free.  There is no cost to students for participating in the Institute.

As participants in the Institute, students will:

-          Live on campus in a beautiful residence hall

-          Engage in career exploration and goal setting initiatives

-          Participate in workshops on topics related to the college search and application process, including mock interviews, creating a resume, making the most of your college visits, financial aid literacy and application essay writing.

-          Interact and network with Montclair State student leaders, faculty, staff and alumni

-          Engage in discussions around social justice, issues facing the Hispanic community in New Jersey, and students’ concerns about college

-          Hear from inspirational guest speakers and panelists

-          Attend a college-fair style event to learn about Montclair State’s 300 majors, minors and concentrations

-          Be eligible for scholarships

-          Develop leadership and public speaking skills

-          Earn a certificate of completion for inclusion on their resumes and college applications

Academically committed students who identify as Hispanic are encouraged to apply when the application becomes available in January 2017.

The College of St. Elizabeth will be having an Instant Decision Day. Below is the criteria to be considered. If you are interested, you must sign up with your guidance counselor by January 18th.

The Middlesex County Arts High School Administrator will be coming on Tuesday, October 25^th at 1:00 pm to speak to all students who are interested in learning more about their Arts program. The program is geared to any student who is interested in working with a professional in the visual, literacy, and performing arts and wants to improve in their chosen art form. The information session will explain the program and answer any questions you might have. For some classes you can even receive college credit! See your counselor for a pass.
