Register for the Free Money Boot Camp at Rowan University

Whether you are thinking about a 2 year or 4 year college program, a technical college or program, or a training program leading to a certification, it’s important to plan for what you will be studying, where you will enroll and how you will pay for it. The College Bound Money Boot Camp is designed as a one-day series of workshops and informational tables where current students, incoming students, and family members work side by side with the University’s Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, and Lenders to gain a head start and competitive edge on the admission and payment process.

EOF Programs - Great College Program for Families that Qualify

If you and your family are in financial need and gross income fall within the criteria below; consider applying to an EOF program in the college that you are choosing.

The application process varies between schools.




How do I Apply for EOF?

1. Apply to a participating New Jersey college or university
Students must apply and be accepted to a New Jersey college or university that participates in the EOF program.

2. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Every student who wants to apply for the EOF grant must file a FAFSA. The FAFSA is available through high schools, colleges or by calling the toll-free hotline number at HESAA (Higher Education Student Assistant Authority)
1-800-792-8670. The FAFSA is also available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 

3. Contact the EOF director
There is an EOF campus director at every college and university participating in the EOF program and each college/university has its own specific criteria for EOF admission and program participation. Students must contact the EOF director at the institution they wish to attend for specific admissions information and requirements for participation in the EOF program.

WHS Guidance Tip: Apply early. The earlier you apply, the better chances for you to get accepted.

If you are interested in taking college courses or participate in an enrichment summer camp, now is the time to register. Many of these programs have deadlines that are quickly approaching or need a letter of recommendation to apply.

Hispanic Student College Institute at Montclair University - Open to Class of 2018 and 2019

Montclair State University earned its Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation in March 2016 and, in doing so, became the largest four-year HSI designee in New Jersey. In celebration of Montclair State’s new status, and in keeping with our commitment to educating Hispanic students, the University is hosting a Hispanic Student College Institute for high school juniors and seniors who identify as Hispanic.

When: August 1-3, 2017

Where: Montclair State University

Cost: Free.  There is no cost to students for participating in the Institute.

As participants in the Institute, students will:
-          Live on campus in a beautiful residence hall
-          Engage in career exploration and goal setting initiatives
-          Participate in workshops on topics related to the college search and application process, including mock interviews, creating a resume, making the most of your college visits, financial aid literacy and application essay writing.
-          Interact and network with Montclair State student leaders, faculty, staff and alumni
-          Engage in discussions around social justice, issues facing the Hispanic community in New Jersey, and students’ concerns about college
-          Hear from inspirational guest speakers and panelists
-          Attend a college-fair style event to learn about Montclair State’s 300 majors, minors and concentrations
-          Be eligible for scholarships
-          Develop leadership and public speaking skills
-          Earn a certificate of completion for inclusion on their resumes and college applications

Academically committed students who identify as Hispanic are encouraged to apply when the application becomes available in January 2017.

Middlesex County Arts High School's Deadline Extended to 11/30

Middlesex County Arts High School's application deadline has been extended to 11/30. 

See Mrs. Roczey with any questions.


The Middlesex County Arts High School Administrator will be coming on Tuesday, October 25th at 1:00 pm to speak to all students who are interested in learning more about their Arts program. The program is geared to any student who is interested in working with a professional in the visual, literacy, and performing arts and wants to improve in their chosen art form. The information session will explain the program and answer any questions you might have. For some classes you can even receive college credit! See your counselor for a pass.

Rutgers School of Engineering Tours and List of College Open Houses

Below is a message from Rutgers promoting their school of engineering program. We encourage students from all grades to visit schools and explore the college selection process early. Also visit the link, http://njsca.org/college-open-houses, to get a list of schools with Open Houses. 



Message from Rutgers: 

We are pleased to inform you that registration is now open for School of Engineering tours for the month of November. These will be the final set of tours for the fall semester. We will resume our tours in February.

On Friday, November 4 and Friday, November 18 tours begin at 10 a.m. at the Visitor Center with an admissions information session, followed by a five-campus bus tour. During the bus tour, families will be able to view one of the first-year residence halls on the Busch Campus. They will also break for lunch (on their own) before heading to the school-specific portion of the day at 1:15 p.m. A detailed itinerary is provided once registered.

On Thursday, November 10 the tour will begin at 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center and will include an Engineering Dean's Overview, Student Panel, and an engineering departmental visit. Again, a detailed itinerary will be provided once registered.

Department options include one of the following:
  • Biomedical & Civil/Environmental
  • Chemical/Biochemical & Materials Science
  • Electrical/Computer & Industrial Systems
  • Mechanical/Aerospace & Applied Science/Packaging

College/Career Access Institute for Students with Learning Disabilities and other Disabilities - July 11 - July 15

Advancing Opportunities’ (AO) College/Career Access Institute will deliver education and training to students with learning disabilities, and other disabilities, for accessing and succeeding in postsecondary careers and college opportunities at Middlesex County College this summer from July 11th-15th.  

The goal of the Institute is to empower, educate, and engage secondary school students in achieving their academic and career goals.  The program approach is that of high expectations for every student, and delivers a personalized learning environment, opportunities for students to make academic and real-world connections, and gives students a view of wonderful post-secondary experiences.  The 5-day Institute encourages students with disabilities to keep on track in school with a focus on the future and an understanding of high quality support for accomplishing their goals. The Institute incorporates the attributes of one- to-one college coaching and the natural support of the cohort experience http://www.cpofnj.org/college_coaching.   

The following are some of the highlights of the topics covered in the coursework.

  • Technology and your Future…. about assistive technology and how to integrate it into their learning.
  •  More about Me….Students will learn how to evaluate important skills and identify important goals.
  •  Leadership and Leading…..Students will learn how to take a leadership role in their planning process and work as a team using project based instruction.
  •   Career Awareness….Students will learn about a variety of occupations and identify the competency required for areas of interest.
  • Career Readiness…..Students will address their decision-making skills, improve problem solving abilities, and understand the importance of responsibility dependability, punctuality, and integrity.

Fords Middle School Carnival Volunteers Needed! Sign up by April 15th.

It is that time of year again for the Ford's Middle School Carnival and we are asking for your help! We are looking for student volunteers who would like to help us out with running games, handing out food, running indoor blow ups, watching over petting zoo, and other carnival related jobs. We ask students to sign up by Friday, April 15 at the latest.

FREE Princeton Summer Journalism Program: Deadline: Friday, February 26th

 Applications are due next week for the 2016 Princeton Summer Journalism Program, an all-expenses-paid journalism and college preparation program at Princeton University for students from low-income backgrounds. Students learn reporting skills from celebrated journalists, report and write their own newspaper, and are paired with a counselor who oversees their college admissions process. SJP alumni have gone on to jobs at The New York Times, The New Yorker, NPR, and many other news outlets. The application can be found at www.princeton.edu/sjp and is due at 11:59pm EST on Friday, February 26, 2016. If you have questions, please reach out to sjp@princeton.edu.

NCAA - Playing Division I or II Sports

The NCAA offers athletic scholarships for students who attend a school with a Division I or II in a particular sport. You must register and follow their guidelines, including having a certain GPA and SAT score. For more information, visit NCAA Eligibility Basics. To register visit, NCAA Eligibility Center. It is recommended to register your junior year but many register their senior year. Any questions, see your guidance counselor.

Redesigned PSAT 2015

On October 14th, WHS students will be taking the redesigned PSAT. This will give students a great opportunity to practice for the redesigned SAT that will take place in 2016.
